David Gerstein is the principal cellist of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Quapaw String Quartet. I have completed four full marathons, five half marathons, five 10Ks, one five-miler, nine 5K's, three sprint triathlons, and the Dopey Challenge. Read on for running stats, pictures of food, pictures of my dog, and random music posts.

Today I embark on a new journey in my fitness life…
I have committed to raise $4000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I have never raised money for anything before in my life. I’m scared.
I had planned on doing a charity run for the Disney Marathon Dopey Challenge…but once I saw that the race was sold out, I knew it was a requirement. I was scrolling through all the different causes you could raise money for, and honestly wasn’t really familiar with any of them. And then I saw St. Jude on the list. Went right to the page, saw there was only one slot left for Dopey fundraising…$4000 was more than I was comfortable with…but I set my nerves aside and clicked the commit button.
I used to volunteer at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital every other week. I would bring my cello and play for the babies in ITU. It was always an amazing experience as you could really see the reaction in the kids. They always brightened up and got so happy…and some of them even danced. And the parents who were there with them always loved it too…I think it helped to sooth their nerves and think about something else for a few minutes.
Unfortunately, my schedule simply doesn’t allow this anymore…so I’m really excited to be able to give back in another way.
I’ve started things off with 50 bucks…but I’d like to ask any of you that would be interested to donate whatever you can. If all of my followers gave 15 dollars, my goal would be met! I’ve set a goal of $4000 which is the minimum commitment for the race entry (and other perks) but I’d like to smash that!
